A short angled bob is a women’s short haircut that’s cut shorter at the back and is longer towards the front. Practical yet extra fashionable and versatile – this combo makes this hot cut the most sought after bob style since the beginning of time!
You’ve surely seen photos of Hollywood fashion icons Regina King, Gabrielle Union, Emily Ratajkwoski, and Jourdan Dunn rocking their voguish short hair in an angled cut rounding up the internet. Their hairstylists made sure to consider their face detail and hair type in creating their complimentary haircuts.
Just like how Orlando-based hair specialist Gerilyn Ghaisarzadeh matches her clients’ face and personality with a fitting hairstyle and even with vibrant colors – you’ll find a long list of ways on how to style an angled bob-cut. Style with beach waves for a carefree, boho vibe or iron it straight and sleek to exquisitely defines that angle – you won’t run out of looks to try for your tresses.
Its versatility isn’t the only amazing thing about angled bobs. Easy maintenance for short cuts also gives it extra fashion points!

This is the perfect short angled bob haircut for a round face. You’re to love looking at yourself in the mirror wearing this beach-waved side part hair on a light ginger color.
For Black Hair
This is a shorter, angled bob with texture, and it’s very sassy. It gives you attitude and confidence. Not many people can pull this look off. Something I like about it a lot is that it calls attention when you walk on the street. It shows off the ability of the hairstylist and their technique. I’ve gotten a lot of business off of this haircut and style. What inspired me for this color look is fall and winter. The dark tones, midnight blues, and purple haze remind me of this season.
It all depends on their face shape. If you have a shorter neck, accentuate it by showing off the back of the neck and maybe stack it up in the back. If you have a long neck, do maybe more of an A-line bob.
What I find fascinating about these kinds of haircuts is that it depends on the client’s personality, and everything is customized and geared towards what best suits them. Maintenance-wise, you look at about 8-9 weeks for the touch up of the haircut.
At-home maintenance is simple, and a lot of times, you just have to paddle brush it dry and then flat iron it. When one of my clients gets a new look like this, part of the service is teaching them how to style it at home.
Textured and Bouncy
It’s a blunt bob with shattered ends. I love this look because it is effortless yet so chic!
This is great for wavy or straighter hair. This haircut needs a bit more maintenance by cutting every two to three months to maintain.
Very Short with Bangs
This very short angled bob with bangs is timeless, chic, and easy to style.
I would tell you to blow-dry with a paddle brush to wear it smooth and to combat the ends that may flip the wrong way. You can also air dry or use a diffuser to bring out the natural texture. Depending on the length, it can be worn with any facial shape. It’s definitely for someone with a hectic lifestyle who wants a low-maintenance cut but still look stylish.
Layered Short Angled Bob
I love this layered and angled bob, as it is very sleek and versatile. This is one of my favorite cuts. It has the edginess that you can smoothly wear it to work yet still give it some beach waves and have some fun.
The color is very dimensional, although it gives the appearance of having a neutral brown base unless you are in the natural light. There’s a mixture of four browns from mocha to auburn. Then we have her crown and glory section, as I call it, where it is heavily highlighted with super fine pieces as well as balayaged throughout to still give the gentle appearance of her natural base color, as it begins to grow out. So, you have the best of both worlds.
Know that you can have fun with it! It does require some work, so be ready to style it. Whether it may be a round brush blow out, flat iron, or using a wand, use products that will help with styling, protect from heat, as well as provide a little hold.
A good leave-in conditioner prep spray to help return the hair to its normal pH, a styling mousse, a blow-out balm, a shine/smoothing serum, and a heat protectant are an absolute must. Short angled bob cuts like this one have so many different ways of being styled – just don’t forget to be sassy!

For Curly Hair
This haircut is a short-medium angled bob with natural diffused curls. My favorite thing about this haircut is how it shows off her natural curls. It also shows that even curly girls can have a beautiful short and curly angled bob.
Make sure it fits with your lifestyle. This fabulous lady was a lifeguard who wanted to have something easy but stylish so that she could still pull it up when she was working.
She also wanted to work with her natural curls, so we discussed what products she should use and decided on using Amika’s Plus Size to help with holding the shape of her curl and softness without that crunch normal mousses have.
Stacked Short Angled Bob
This bob is a posh, hi-end style — a hairstyle where you can wear comfy clothes to dressy clothes and still look stylish and trendy. I wanted to choose a color that expressed something deep and sophisticated. I also wanted to form this bob, so when she is getting ready with a busy life, it just falls into place, creating an easy way of an on-the-go and still looking classy.
You need to have the proper bone structure to have a high-elevated bob. To achieve this striking look, it would be best to have thick to coarse hair. It will make the bob look more defined.
I like to use a very light anti-frizz creme to smooth any fly always. It tends to give the elevated bob a sleeker look, which creates sophistication for people who have busy lives and don’t have too much time to spend on their hair every day.
With Bangs and Layers
This short angled bob hair cut is fun and flirty. Her natural texture works with this cut. This type of easy tousled look is really in right now. It’s for women who want to look put together, as well as stylish yet utilizing little time in the morning.
This cut is paired with an edgy asymmetrical fringe to create a little more of a fun look. The nape line is soft and textured to give more of a feminine feel.
She has a small amount of waves in her hair, but with the right texturizing and product usage, the wave bounces up, creating a tousled beach wave look. The way I styled was easy. While it was wet, I put some Catwalk Sea Salt Spray by TIGI. The back was blow-dried naturally. In the front, I blow-dried everything up, creating volume while scrunching it with my hand intermittently. Then once dry, I sprayed the sea salt back on and scrunched it in. This took care of any frizz.
To give it even more of an edgy feel, you could use a texturizing paste to piece out the look. After styling, it would be a fun look to add some accessories too. This is an easy, on-the-go, low-maintenance style and can be styled utilizing only one product.
This cut is for all ages. If you’re worried about the face shape, don’t be. If you feel like you have a round face, add more volume, keep more length in the front, and the bangs longer. This cut honestly could be personalized to anyone’s face shape.
For Thin Hair
This look, to me, is the perfect balance of sexy and chic. This cut is one of my absolute favorite haircuts for women with thin hair. My favorite thing about this cut is how versatile it is. You can wear it sleek and sexy or add some soft waves for a more playful, soft look.
If my client is considering this haircut, I ask these questions. What is your everyday routine? How much time do you want to spend on your hair daily? What styling products and tools do you have at home?
This cut is super easy to style, but I always tell my client that they will have to blow dry their hair with a round brush to achieve the sleek look like pictured here, then to finish with a straightener to smooth out the sides to give it that sharp look.
The perfect face shape for this cut is round since it will elongate your face, but I do love this cut on most face shapes since you can customize how long and angled the front will be to suit each face shape.
I would rate this hair cut medium for maintenance since you will need it trimmed about every 5-8 weeks to keep the shape.
Mostly all hair types can pull this off. It all depends on the perfect styling products to make styling easier. My absolute favorite products are from Unite Hair. On this look, I used a product called Unite Lazer Straight and Unite Boosta Volumizing Spray.
Blonde Balayage
This is a crisp classic shape, but with the subtle tousled movement and golden tones – I would describe this look as refined softness. What I love about this look is that the overall shape is visually appealing. The back is short and stacked while maintaining the length around the face for a soft, feminine, versatile look. I added golden highlights to her warm caramel base to create beautiful depth and dimension for a stunning style.
This is ageless style has so many different variations that can be customized to each client’s specific needs and desires. Being honest and real with your stylist about the amount of time you are willing to invest in styling will help him/her recommend appropriate products for your hair and provide styling tips.
This timeless style truly can be refined and detailed in so many ways to make it suitable for all hair textures and densities. It is amazing for an on-the-go girl, professionals, young and mature women!!!
Choppy with an Undercut
This is a choppy angled short bob with a peekaboo shaved undercut even if it not visible in the pic. I love its versatility: elegant yet edgy and modern. She’s rocking her natural color, embracing her amazing grey hair that blends so well with the natural smokey blonde.
I would ask if she’s an active person or not and how much longer she’d need to preserve to make the haircut more suitable to her lifestyle. If she prefers to put her hair up in a ponytail, maybe we need to rethink the length and keep it a little bit longer. If not, we can go even shorter.
Short hair doesn’t need much upkeep besides using the right products. Essentially I would recommend a good product to be used before drying it – like a mousse or a texturing lotion – and a styling wax/paste to give that extra texture and fun to it. I believe “less is more.” It takes a couple of weeks to get used to short hair, but trust me when I say it’s addictive.
Wavy and Short
I think my client describes this look the best as a cool-mom bob. We wanted something that when styled and curled, it is fun and sassy, but also when blown out straight, it’s sleek and still has a great shape.
I think the versatility of this look is my favorite part of it. For styling, I used Color Wow’s Carb Infused Dream Cocktail for some added volume, curled in alternating directions with my Croc Hybrid Iron, and then sprayed Cult-Favorite Hairspray by Color Wow.
Usually, when a client is considering any shorter look, I remind them that short hair is sometimes more work than long hair. Most times, in addition to analyzing face shape, the actual length is determined on if they want to put it still up.
Not all clients want it so short that ponytails can be done, so daily styling is usually something that needs to be done. That’s when I recommend a product according to their hair type. Whether that be something for smoothing frizzy hair or pumping up the volume, that depends on each client, but no matter what, I feel that every client needs something with a heat protectant.
I always talk to my clients through how to apply products and then how to style because I want them to feel comfortable and confident, re-creating their looks at home.
Jaw-Length Bob
This look is a classic, and it will ever go out of style. It’s good if you still want length around your face but still have some fullness without being too short. Be prepared to style it every day. It’s not a wash-and-go kind of deal. A good blowdry will do wonders with this style, depending on your texture.
Choppy Blonde with an Undercut
This cut is timeless and low maintenance for the most part. We shaved her underneath to create a little of an undercut because her hairline has quite a few cowlicks. It was a fun way to help that problem and look super cute even if she wants to tie it back a bit.
My favorite part about it is that it’s supposed to look carefree and effortless, so when she styles it in the morning, she doesn’t have to think about it again! We went with cooler tones for her highlights, and I just think it goes so well with her skin tone.
I think this style works great with hair on the thinner side. It looks at more body. It’s great for any lifestyle as this particular client is in the active military living on base, with two small kids, I might add.
Straight bobs with this hair type are so simple to style and always look cute. A few passes with the curling iron, and she’s good to go!
